You land in Split and within an hour you’re walking through palm-lined waterfronts toward the marina. We meet, drop bags in the cabins, do a quick safety briefing, grab groceries, and open the first cold drink in the cockpit. The week starts slowly. Golden light, limestone buildings, that Adriatic smell in the air.
We leave Split behind and settle into our rhythm under sail. The coastline here is layered: islands stacked behind islands, water shifting between deep blue and turquoise. In Šibenik, stone staircases climb above the harbor and small konobas spill out into narrow alleys. It feels lived in, not polished.
The Kornati are different. Bare, dramatic, almost lunar. There are barely any trees, just smooth white rock dropping into absurdly clear water. We sail between scattered islands, anchor somewhere quiet, swim straight off the boat, and eat dinner with nothing around us but wind and horizon.
Iž is tiny and simple. Fishing boats, a handful of houses, clear water you can see straight to the bottom. Later we sail to Zadar, which feels older and more layered. Roman ruins, polished stone streets, and that famous sea organ humming at sunset while everyone gathers by the waterfront.
Pašman has this raw, clean feel to it — the currents here constantly move the water, and you notice how clear it is when you dive in. Small villages, quiet coves, very little noise.
Murter adds contrast. Sandy and pebbled beaches, more hidden bays tucked into the coastline, and warm evenings in harbors that feel relaxed but alive.
A proper sailing day. Longer stretches, steady wind, everyone a bit more confident at the helm. Rogoznica sits in a protected bay. Calm water, pastel houses, restaurants right on the dock. It’s a good place to sit back and realize how far we’ve come in a week.
One last swim stop near Šolta. Cliffs, clear water, no rush. We pass by Trogir’s medieval skyline before sailing back into Split. The marina feels different now. Familiar. And now you’re moving around the boat without thinking. A week at sea and you have turned into a sailor!!
Morning coffee, hugs, and departures. Leaving with salt in your hair and a better feel for life under sail.

I’m Axel, a Finnish skipper who lives most of the year at sea.
I run these trips so more people can experience what sailing actually feels like – not on a cruise ship, but on a real sailboat with a small crew.
Every trip is:
– Professionally skippered
– Safety-focused
You don’t need any sailing background. Just a sense of curiosity and a willingness to share a boat with strangers who probably won’t stay strangers for long.
